Dentures are a blessing in disguise for elderly people who have lost their original teeth but still want to look a bit young and intact. Use of dentures is not much old and they are much more than fixed artificial teeth around the world. With use of dentures comes in picture the denture creams as essential part of a consumer’s life.  With an increase in the use of denture creams there has been an increase in denture cream lawsuits. It has been observed that a major ingredient in the denture creams “Zinc” is causing many health issues to the users who use denture creams much too often in their daily routines. Zinc is used as a bonding agent (adhesive) in some formulas of Poligrip and Fixodent products. As many Personal Injury Law Firms and Personal Injury Lawyers are filing denture cream lawsuits, people are becoming aware of the cause of their Personal Injury and are looking for alternatives to secure their health.
It was in 2007 when the attention towards denture cream poisoning was drawn by an Italian researcher. He presented a theory that there was a link between denture cream excessive use and strange neurological conditions observed in some patients who included limb weakness and difficulty in walking. A year later, a study was carried out at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center that studied the effects of excessive zinc usage in some denture cream products. It was also observed that excessive zinc can lead to a severe copper deficiency in the body. A Vanderbilt researcher studying why some patients had low copper levels in their blood, examined all 11 of those patients who used an excessive amount of denture cream with high levels of Zinc in them in their routines with the new knowledge of a link between excessive zinc and copper deficiency. He proposed that these patients may have been suffering from denture cream zinc poisoning.
About two years later, Glaxo SmithKline announced that it would stop making denture cream formulas using zinc. This announcement effected three specific Poligrip products; Super Poligrip Original,  Ultra Fresh and Extra Care. This was a very thoughtful move.
